ARTIFACTS GALLERY

The Artifacts Gallery was an idea that formed in 2013. The object was to create an informative and high quality gallery to communicate the historical knowledge of a golden age of theatre.
To align this gallery with tours of the theatre, especially educational tours and tours for the public.

This gallery stands as an historic tribute to the opening of the State Theatre, and to exhibit artworks that were created and commissioned for the Theatre .
The artworks provide an overview of some of the best South African artists through time: Cecil Skotnes, David Mbele, JH Pierneef, Walter Battis and Bettie Celliers Barnard to name a few.

We feature theatre sets at model scale, costumes, décor and many more, all from the archives of The South African State Theatre. This venue is also open to exhibit artist installations.
