This July, the South African State Theatre proudly presents Girls of the Golden West, an evocative contemporary dance production that invites audiences into a deeply emotional and visually striking exploration of African womanhood, resilience and transformation. Presented as part of the 2026 Kucheza Festival, the production runs from 7 to 12 July 2026 at the Sibusiso Khwinana Theatre.
Created by acclaimed choreographer Thami Tshabalala, directed by Momo Matsunyane, and featuring musical direction by Nik Sakellarides, Girls of the Golden West is a fearless artistic work that transcends conventional dance. It is a poetic conversation between the body, memory and identity, where every movement tells a story words cannot fully express.
