PRODUCTIONS TO PROVIDE OWN SOUND ENGINEER, LIGHTING DESIGNER, SET DESIGNER, AND STAGE MANAGER.

Sibusiso Khwinana Theatre serves as a milestone for the theatre as it reinvents itself as Africa’s leading performing arts facility. The theatre has hosted a variety of showcases including dance, drama,
poetry and small-scale musicals. In recent years, the auditorium has been dedicated to staging developmental and new works mostly presented by young people.

Stage

  1. The SK main stage is 10m wide and 12m deep.
  2. The Sibusiso Khwinana theatre is equipped with a black velvet backdrop, movable masking flats and white cyclorama. Any other backdrops required for the production to be sourced at own cost. The production must provide a qualified stage manager to supervise all technical aspects of the production and to call the show for all performances and rehearsals.
  3. Set and décor pieces as well as any other piece of equipment used for the production is subject to a safety inspection by the State Theatre HSS manager who reserves the right to disallow any equipment or structure that is unsafe according to current legislation.

Sound

  1. 2X Ev Evolves as PA System.
  2. Behringer x32 mixing console.

Decor

  • There is a variety of props available. The props can be seen after an appointment is made with, or enquiries made to the Décor department.
  • Props which are used on productions are stored on the side stages or in the props rooms next to the stage. Afterwards they are returned to the main props store which is in the basement of the building.

Lighting

  1. The Sibusiso Khwinana is equipped with a saturation lighting rig (copy available on request), and a dot2 lighting console.
  2. Two smoke machines are also available. Any other lighting equipment required for the production to be sourced by the production at own cost, including specialised crew to set up and operate.
