THE CHINESE NEW YEAR SPRING FESTIVAL The theatre was transformed into a vibrant hub of discovery, excitement, and cultural exchange during the Chinese Festival. Guests wandered through an immersive exhibition celebrating Chinese creativity, innovation, and technology. From interactive displays to stunning vehicle showcases outside, attendees explored and engaged with fascinating experiences that sparked curiosity and connection. As the evening unfolded, the spotlight shifted to the stage, where Chinese performers mesmerized audiences with their extraordinary talent. Their performances highlighted the beauty of precision, artistry, and storytelling that is deeply rooted in their native culture. But the celebration didn’t stop there , South African artists took to the stage, bringing the richness of our diverse cultures to life through dance, music, and vibrant storytelling. This cultural dialogue created a magical exchange, where guests experienced the best of both worlds. The festival was a testament to creativity, collaboration, and connection, leaving attendees inspired and enthralled. It was a day where innovation met artistry, and cultures came together to celebrate shared experiences in a dynamic and unforgettable way.

Endumbeni is a sacred space where traditional healers/ shamans pass spiritual prognoses and treatments on clients through several mediums. Thomas defines his latest offering as “a space. of healing, confrontation and spiritual realignment of generations passed. A transcendent space where multiverses coexist. Where calmness after the storm is evident”. Thomas’s troupe of young, yet experienced Dance graduates seek to explore these themes through the medium of Afro-contemporary in pursuit of spiritual amendment.

The "Sheroes Rands" exhibition, created by artist Kganya Mogashoa in 2023, is an art project that reimagines women's representation on currency by highlighting prominent African women and challenging the lack of their portrayal on banknotes and coins. The series explores societal views on women's value and contributions, with subsequent exhibitions such as "Sheroes Rands Herstory" and "Reflections of a Queen" delving deeper into women's historical presence, lived realities, and the ongoing struggle against gender-based violence and social injustice.

A woman in a hospital bed seeking for better life. As she is in conscious mind, she gets a vision of self-introspection that poses a question of what is worth living and what is the impact she brings in life as a woman. The vision invites mindfulness to become aware of life. As it has been, as it can be, and perhaps in some instance as it should be.

Speaking from Experience is a journey on the wings of poetry and music. Presented by the State Theatre and supported by a live band, a poet’s voice soars to share his life-time experiences and of others. The production is described as an emotional journey of awareness.

Deception befalls the jungle during a drought in this children's musical theatre production titled An Elephant's Dream. Apparently, Mr. Elephant had a dream about Mr. Swallow praying for rain, hoping for the drought to end. He shares the dream with his friend Tholo, who would later present it to the Lion, King of the jungle, and claim it to be his. The dream becomes a reality from the work written and directed by the passionate children's theatre storyteller Shala Chokwe.

The mountains true life is the life of not just birds, pebbles, trees, wells, and the soil… but a jaw-dropping alluring existence of ritualistic expressions, that include inherited stories, traditional poems, cultural celebratory songs, and war-dance moves that can depict the trials, tribulations, and triumphant lives of the people [batho]. What if the actual mountain unearths and cultivates itself into a perfect human metaphor that re-embodies itself through Bo’nkgono-nkgono [great-grandmothers]. What if Bo’nkgono-nkgono re-birth themselves as this mountain we can climb, see, hear, touch, and feel? Could it be that through dipina, diboko, dithoko, difela le ditshomo Bo’nkgono-nkgono re-birth and reincarnate as Thaba Bosiu (the-mountain-of-the-night) … to display a rainbow of diverse cultures and traditions that are a cross between the existence, experience, screams and dreams of Morena Moshoeshoe (I) the founder of Batho-Ba-Sootho? Is it possible for Bo’nkgono-nkgono through narrative myths and magic rise-up to mirror the imaginative face of Morena Moshoeshoe (I), the one who drew together the scattered Basotho people who had been driven apart by both the Zulu and Ndebele raids, and created Lesotho, which became the Basotho Kingdom. Imagine three strong feminine voices re-tell of Thaba Bosiu (the-mountain-of-the-night) echoing to us to go tell it on the mountain! For the mountain remains the same — unstoppable, unchangeable, and unmovable. Then imagen if one day Thaba Bosiu (the-mountain-of-the-night) turn around to bite, push, and throw you back down… so damn! hard that you recoil with pride who your people are.

A story of freedom fighters and community activists who are turned to be deadly assassins, double agents, informers and intelligence analysts. It tells the story of men and women who infiltrated organized civic movements and student organisations for recruiting unsuspecting youth and influential leaders. This story interrogates the decisions that led to their choice of turning from community activists to mass killers. The story goes deep into the personal account of these individuals who administered pain, fear and death. These stories of betrayal, death, redemption, and forgiveness are captured through dazzling music, dance, and powerful storytelling.

There comes a time in every story when it feels like hope is lost. Everything is going wrong, all options have been exhausted, and the only thing left to do is pray for divine interventions. Developed in confinement, this outdoor processional performance is a playful response to the challenges of 2020 and beyond. Four goddesses descend from the heavens and tour the streets on their giant bicycle, having received word that the world is in dire need of their help.

The production is an adaption of the book We Are Going to Kill Each Other Today: The Marikana Story by Thanduxolo Jika, Sebabatso Mosamo, Leon Sadiki, Athandiwe Saba, Lucas Ledwaba and Felix Dlangamandla. The book looks at the lives of mineworkers, such as the late Mgcineni “Mambush” Noki, and their families, as well as the events leading up to the massacre. Noki became the face of the strike and was known as the “man in the green blanket” because of the blanket he was often photographed wearing. Genre: Drama Musical Age Restriction: 13 up

This is an introspective drama tracing how BLACK, WOKE YOUNG WOMEN are facing the challenges of identity crisis. How the Tradition, Culture, Custom and Education at some instance is used to tame the Wild Woman. The play attempts to revive the confidence of these women in a harsh environment both from rural and urban areas and encourages them to be proud of who they are yet be able to embrace their culture and Tradition.
